Kristina Arakelyan’s work as composer, performer and educator is guided by a clear passion for music’s intrinsic power. The Armenian-British musician, born in 1994, seeks to communicate profound emotions with her widely praised, 'strikingly beautiful' compositions. Kristina’s talents as composer and pianist were nurtured at London’s Purcell School, the Royal Academy of Music, the University of Oxford and King’s College, London. She began writing for professional ensembles in her mid-teens and has since reached audiences worldwide with works such as Star Fantasy, Dreamland, Ave Maris Stella and Meditation.
Kristina won the BBC Young Composer competition in 2010 and received an Ivors Academy Nomination in 2021. Having cultivated her true lyrical voice, she made her breakthrough with a series of significant commissions. These include works for the BBC Proms, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Alison Balsom, BBC Radio 3, the Royal Albert Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral, Anna Lapwood, the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and the BBC Singers. Dreamland, her solo piano debut album as composer and performer, is set for release by Platoon in autumn 2024.
